Google, Twitter, & Facebook: We need to know if we can trust you.

CISPA is a bill that would make every privacy policy on the web a total joke. These three companies say they're for their users' rights. So where do they stand on the law that would END privacy?

Tell Google, Facebook, and Twitter: Privacy please! We want to trust you, but we need to know where you stand on CISPA.

Fight for the Future and Center for Rights will contact you about future campaigns. Privacy Policy.

Companies we can trust will say "NO" to CISPA

The US government wants to exempt every company from following their own privacy policy; that's why we expect our biggest web companies to not let this happen. CISPA will grant companies legal immunity if they freely share our information with the government, i.e. you can't sue them even when they're using your information illegally or their privacy policy says they won't. The result: an end to privacy online. CISPA trumps all existing privacy laws and no company we trust should want CISPA to become law.

Google, Twitter, and Facebook are three of the biggest companies on the web and they house a massive amount of information on their users. It's important that users constantly remind them how much we care about our privacy. Google and Twitter have actually done really awesome things to defend user privacy like refusing to turn over data to the government without a warrant, and releasing transparency reports. We're asking them to remain consistent with that commitment by making a public statement on CISPA so that their users, and Congress, know where they stand.

UPDATE: Facebook is closer to unfriending CISPA! After pressure from our friends Demand Progress, they have they have expressed privacy concerns for the bill. Everyone share this petition so we can make sure they, along with Google and Twitter, come out against CISPA.

What's wrong with CISPA? (in as few words as possible)

As it's written CISPA won't protect us from cyber threats, but it will completely destroy privacy.

  • It lets the government spy on you without a warrant. (read more)

  • It makes it so you can’t even find out about it after the fact. (read more)

  • It makes it so companies can’t be sued when they do illegal things with your data. (read more)

  • It allows corporations to cyber-attack each other and individuals outside of the law. (read more)

  • It makes every privacy policy on the web a moot point, and violates the 4th amendment. (read more)

  • It contains no protections that prevent corporations from re-purposing data shared for "cybersecurity" purposes for anything else they want: marketing research, debt collection, copyright lawsuits? (read more)

Which companies will really go to bat for you?

The companies and organizations below have proven their true commitment to user privacy by vocally opposing CISPA. How legit is that? These companies are actually saying, “We want to be sued if we do something illegal with your data.” That’s how you know they are actually taking your privacy seriously. If Google, Twitter, and Facebook are ready to walk the walk, they’ll join this list!
